I am a working class writer originally from South Wales now based in Glasgow. I love big characters and big ideas and I'm currently working on a varied slate of film and TV projects.
Some notable credits include the BBC radio play Finding Love at the End of the World, the audio series The Chronicles of Astrimos, multiple TV movies for Reel One. My latest project is the short film St. Anthony which I wrote and directed as part of the Sean Connery Talent Lab. For the completist, here is a dispassionate list of some accomplishments written in the third person: Declan is a member of BAFTA Connect, he was part of the inaugural BBC Scottish Voices, he is an alum of the Edinburgh Film Festival Talent Lab and Talent Lab Connects. In 2023 his TV adaptation of his play The Muse was selected for Sky’s Table Reads and performed for an industry audience at Soho Place in London. He has a BA in English lit and an MA in TV Writing.
For some much needed colour
I used to be / occasioanally still am a professional magician
I created and hosted the successful Videogame podcast Checkpoints in which I interviewed various video game luminaries about the games that shaped their life (this was both a podcast pick of the week in the Guardian, and the basis for a research paper at Queensland University of Technology in Australia)
In 2013 I inexplicably became international news when I attempted to meet everyone who followed me on twitter. A feat which formed the basis of a sell out show at the Edinburgh Fringe. I am unlikely to attempt that feat again lest I end up in some kind of cult or militia.
I'm a big fan of embracing technology to tell stories in new ways. I created a GPS style treasure hunt called FourSquare Tales which won a New Media Writing Award in 2014. I've developed VR Narrative Projects, and have worked on interactive museum exhibits. Some of which can be seen at the Burrell Collection in Glasgow.
